What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique. The predominate form of Reiki practiced throughout the world today, also known as Usui Reiki, was created by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 20th century.
Reiki can help with stress, anxiety, depression, grief, physical pain, sleep problems and general life challenges.
The word Reiki comes from Japanese Kanji, with ‘Rei’ meaning ‘universal’ and ‘Ki’ meaning ‘life energy' or 'life force’. ‘Ki’ is synonymous with ‘Chi’ in Chinese, ‘Prana’ in Sanskrit or what modern day science calls ‘Biofield energy’.
Reiki healing is powerful, intuitive and calming, and can be used either on it's own for healing, or as a complementary therapy that is used alongside western medicine.

Rei - Universal
Ki - Life Energy

How it works
Our bodies are composed not only of physical elements such as muscles, bones, arteries, organs etc; it also has a subtle energy system through which 'life force' or 'chi' energy flows. This subtle life force flows within the physical body through pathways commonly known as chakras, meridians and nadis.
This subtle energy nourishes the organs and cells of our bodies, supporting them in their vital functions. When the flow of this subtle energy is disrupted, blocked or unbalanced it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.
Put simply, Reiki is a therapy that restores energy balance and vitality by unblocking and balancing the flow of this subtle life force energy throughout our bodies.
The best way to understand the benefits of Reiki is to experience them for yourself!

Reiki in
healthcare
Reiki works in harmony with all other kinds of treatments including medical and psychological care.
In fact, over 900 hospitals in Australia, U.S., Canada, UK and Ireland (including the Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins) have incorporated Reiki into their patient care programs.
Reiki is being used to help alleviate pain, anxiety, and other symptoms associated with illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, and chronic pain.

In 2016, Harvard University* conducted a large scale study to measure the positive health impact of Reiki treatments on clients. The results from this trial suggest that a single session of Reiki significantly improved a wide variety of participants ailments, including a reduction in pain, anxiety, depression, shortness of breath, nausea and an increase in overall wellbeing.

More research is being conducted on the benefits of Reiki, but with an increase in demand for this therapy amongst patients and clinical practioners, Reiki is now being recognized as an important tool to maximize patient care and minimize recovery time.
